Objective: 

This course familiarizes the students with nature and process of counselling. Its major theories and techniques and exposes them to the different fields of application of counselling.

Therapeutic skills and clinical practice :

the client  therapist relationship, generic skills, specific strategies and techniques, assessment and case formulation, structuring work with client.

Skills to facilitate communication in psychotherapy and counselling :

 Attending skills, non-verbal communication, listening skills, questions to encourage communication.

Unit III: 
Response types :

Verbal communication and client disclosure – Encouraging phrases, Restatements and paraphrases, reflections, interfacing response type, summarization.

Moving Beyond simple communication :

 the process of Empathy.

Skills for cognitive awareness

Working with thoughts and cognition, basic skills and advanced interventions – confrontation here and now cognitive processing, interpretation.
