Guest Lecture on ''Working with Suicidal Clients''.

The Department of Psychology, IIS (deemed to be) University, Jaipur organized a webinar for students on the topic “Working with Suicidal Clients” on 20 th October 2022, 2:00 pm by Ms. Jyoti Mehta. The facilitator at the start of the webinar informed the students about the need and importance of training themselves in Suicide interventions as a Future Mental Health Professional based on eye opening statistics which spoke about the likeliness of every student working with clients who have/had suicidal tendenices. The webinar informed students about different Cues with which they can identify suicidal tendencies in clients, categorizing cues into Verbal and Behavioural Cues. The students were further educated on how to assess the risk level in different clients with suicidal tendenices, it was based on analyzing the depth and intricacies behind the Ideation, Planning, Behaviour and Intent of the client’s act. Along with that students were also informed about the difference between Self Harm and Suicide.

Further, the students were empowered with the knowledge of various interventions including the Stepped Care Model, Safety Planning Intervention, Motivational Interviewing, Cole-King Bank of Hope, Dialectical Behaviour Therapy and Cognitive Therapy for Suicide Prevention. At the end of the webinar, the facilitator informed the students about the importance of Self Care as a Mental Health Professional. The Webinar was well received by the students and was closed with a Question and Answer session.
