The psychology department of IIS (deemed to be University) conducted a culinary exploration in the historic walled city of Jaipur on December 18th, 2023, in partnership with the Jaipur Virasat Foundation. This initiative aimed to celebrate the diverse array of local cuisine and provide participants with an in-depth understanding of its cultural significance. Faculty members and students journeyed into the heart of old Jaipur, where they were accompanied by a knowledgeable guide who shared insights into the historical roots of the various dishes.
Jaipur is renowned for its iconic Rajasthani thali, exquisite laal maas, and delectable ghewar, making it one of the premier representatives of Rajasthan's rich culinary heritage. The extensive selection of snacks, savory dishes, and sweets reflects a deep and enduring relationship with the culinary arts, showcasing a remarkable variety. This food tour offered an exceptional opportunity to savor the harmonious blend of spices, sweetness, tanginess, and desserts. The delightful walk through the ancient sections of the Pink City revealed authentic, flavorful dishes that exemplify the state's culinary excellence.
This excursion through the Old Quarter immerses participants in the local dining experience, allowing them to enjoy meals at beloved local establishments. For instance,Smrat ke samosa , gulab ji ki Chai, Sri Ji Khaman and many more old street foods were enjoyed by the students. Another notable spot Hawa mahal which is the best place for window shopping and knowing about its history created a memorable experience for the students.
