Guest Lecture on Cross Cultural Psychology

The lecture cum interactive session on: Towards a New Generation of Cross-Cultural Research began by first welcoming the resource person Dr. Matthew Rudolph.

In the beginning of the session, he introduced himself and the political science background he belongs to. He also told the participants that how he ended up with doing research across cultures.

He began the session by asking participants to write some questions and continued by discussing the answers of the same. He asked about several factors across culture which largely plays a role in defining and predicting the behaviour of a person. Some of the factors he talked about were Language, caste, geographical conditions, Industrialization, colonialism.

He added valuable points to the discussion i.e. Power distance and cultural closeness. Some dimensions he talked about were collectivist v/s individualism, Muscularity v/s femininity. Later on, he talked about how we can change behaviour or thoughts that are formed because of cultural background.

He continued the session by discussing other emerging topics i.e. Religion and terrorism, Treatment of women across cultures and empowerment of women, and the effects of social media.

Throughout the session he tried to discuss each and every point picked up by the participants and correlated the different points very well. He gave participants a new way of looking through and towards cultural effects.

The session ended by giving him a note of thankful gratitude.
